Aeropress Coffee Maker - A Users Guide

The Aeropress coffee maker is proving to be immensely popular with our customers, however I have to say that my first experience when it was demonstrated to me proved to be rather disappointing.

The individual coarse ground the coffee and quickly pressed the water through the coffee. A thin and bitter taste was probably the least offensive description I could use.

Subsequently we have been researching how best to make coffee through this novel equipment and have found that when correctly used it produces a great cup of coffee.

The following is a step by step guide to using the Aeropress which we believe will deliver a great cup of coffee every time particularly of course if it's Cooper's!

  1. Moisten the filter paper prior to placing in the "cap" of the Aeropress. Then twist cap into position.
  2. Stand the Chamber on a mug or other drinking vessel
  3. Place 2 scoops (about 14g) of ESPRESSO ground coffee into the Chamber
  4. Pour hot water slowly into the Chamber up to the number 1. mark making sure you cover all the ground coffee. By the way Aeropress recommend using water at 80 degrees C. or 175 degree F. for dark roasted coffees and 85c or 185f for lighter roasts.
  5. Wait for 10 seconds and then pour a second amount of hot water up to the number 2. mark.
  6. Now stir the brew gently for about 10 seconds.
  7. Wet the rubber seal and insert the plunger into the chamber. Gently press down for about 20 seconds. We recommend that you don't press all the water through the coffee as the best flavours will have already been extracted.

You will now have the equivalent of a double shot of espresso coffee with a profile that is a lot softer than the equivalent made through a traditional espresso machine. This means that some of the more 'fruity' coffees come out really well.
